Libertad de la Expresión en La Cuidad
5th June - 3rd July 2009

Four projects explore the nature of being heard within our cities and the potential there for freedom of speech and expression.
What constitutes ‘speech’: The igniting and extinguishing of a Star of David made of twigs in a square in Barcelona, the putrid realisation of religious symbols, sunbathing nudes in a melting car park, or a little girl’s quest for haptic communication?
Like Demosthenes, the famous orator of ancient Athens, overcoming his speech impediments by shouting out over the Mediterranean with a mouthful of pebbles; so must we strive for elocution, we too must work on our dictions, our voices and our gestures.
These projects in each case serve to posit and demonstrate a “speech act”.

We propose that speech should be fearless!
